Wednesday April 10


Today in the Joy Pod students, participated in our first (of hopefully many), Pillow Play Day.  Students were asked to bring in their own pillows.  We established and reviewed rules prior to all the fun.  Here were our rules...

  • Soft pillows only!  Try to not send feather pillows as they can definitely cause a mess!
  • Swing lightly, many people will be swinging at once
  • Do not swing at people without pillows
  • Remove eye glasses beforehand
  • Listen to all signals of when to start and when to end
  • Only swing at a person's body (no heads). - we may need to make a time-out bench for those who forget this rule :)
  • No running
  • Make eye contact with the person you would like to play with
  • If someone says "stop" and/or  is no longer smiling than I need to stop
The "Pillow Play" event fits perfectly with  our essential question of, "How Does Play Connect Us?"  Through our inquiry work, we have been learning and understanding to make play fun, inclusive, challenging, enjoyable and safe, we must have rules.  This was another perfect example of how rules help everyone stay safe and have fun.
We had sooooo much fun.

Physical Education: Students continued with our gymnastics unit during their physical education classes.  We encourage students to wear loose, comfortable clothing to help with movement during this unit.  Gymnastics will continue into next week so students who are at the Science Centre this week will not miss out on the fun.

BOTTLE CAPS:
Please continue to think of Joy Pod when you are recycling your bottle cap lids.  We are happy to have any colour of lid (Black, Brown, Green, Blue, Red, Yellow, Purple, Pink and Orange plastic lids.  Thank you in advance!

Lunch:  The school has been trying something different at lunch since returning from Spring Break.  The students have 15 minutes of quiet time to eat at the beginning of lunch. This is to help lunchroom supervisors take attendance, get milk handed out for those students who are in the milk program and allow the students time to concentrate on getting food into their bellies.  If you are finding your child is still not eating their lunch, please let your responsibility teacher know.  After 15 minutes of quiet eating time, students who are finished eating can watch a video, read a book and then head outside for some fresh air until lunch is over.
