JOY POD
Math: In the new year we will be focusing our work on"Numeracy" with a focus on addition and subtraction. In grade 1 students will be working on addition and subtraction to 18. In grade 2 students will be working on addition and subtraction to 100. There are lots of math games using cards that build their numeracy skills.
Inquiry: We are coming to a close with our first inquiry of the school year. Beginning in the new year our inquiry focus will be on"Play" and "How Play Connects Us?" This inquiry will lead us to student choice on an upcoming field trip venue with Campus Calgary/ Open MInds.
More information to come! We are excited for the possibilities of this inquiry!
Literacy: Please continue to encourage your child to read and write over the Winter Break. Students have worked hard since September and we would love to keep the momentum going with our reading and writing growth. Today all students in the Joy Pod are bringing home a reading challenge for over the break. We are encouraging all students to read 12 books (or chapters) over the break and the teachers are taking the challenge themselves. Winter is a wonderful time to spend reading on those colder days. There are many ways to access books in our community such as the many Free Little Libraries, the Calgary Public Library and even online through our school website (link to Tumblebooks through the learning commons)

Tomorrow is Spirit Day "The All Day Pajama Day"
We are encouraging students to wear their pajamas to school. We got a glimpse during the"Polar Express Evening" of our pajama attire and encourage students to wear pajamas. Students are NOT expected to wear their pajamas. We are working to continue to build a "Pod Feeling" with our learners and what better way to do that than with pajamas :) Please try to keep stuffed animals at home.
