Joy Pod Remembers

Friday was a day of Remembrance at Eric Harvie School.  The Hope Wing Grade 3/4 students presented this year's Remembrance Day Ceremony.  It was filled with poetry, music, tableaus, and videos that truly honoured the brave men and women who have served our country and highlighted the need for peace in our world moving forward. Thank you to the two students from Joy Pod for presenting the wreath that students created for this occasion.

Joy Pod students continue to learn about Patterns and Relations from all of the teachers in Joy Pod.  Parents will have the opportunity to work along  their children in the various rooms to share their learning at Student Led Conferences coming up on November 22 and 23.
Parents will be able to sign up for conferences on November 17, 2018

Just a reminder that Monday, November 12, is a regular school day at Eric Harvie School

Joy Pod is in need of some school-appropriate liquids (may include but not limited to household chemicals, sauce, juice, pop, or milk). It would be okay if the containers have been opened and part of content has been used/poured out. We plan to use collected liquids in inquiry lessons. Please ensure that liquids that you send are in their original containers to ensure that we can handle these in a safe manner. Thank you!

In support of our veterans, we are collecting non-perishable food items for the Veterans’ Food Bank.  Donations will still be accepted on Monday, November 12  Collection boxes will be located in the Hub.

Parents of Grade Two Students:
All missed Grade 2 students who parents gave permission to participate in the University of Calgary, regarding the impact of fluoridation in the city's water will be seen on Nov. 19.  Should any parents of Grade 2 students who did not initially provide consent but are now interested in participating in the study on Nov. 19, please contact Ms. Low at kmlow@cbe.ab.ca for a permission form.

Joy Pod
We discussed about the art style of Todd Parr (how colours are used and how drawings are made) and we drew a pig family in the Todd Parr style. We continued to work on different aspects of our joy themed Peace Assembly. Ask me what we continued to work on. We successfully completed our Practice Lockdown. This gave us an opportunity to talk about why it is important to practice.

Today students were given the choice of 4 different lenses in which we plan to focus our inquiry work for the next few weeks.  Students will be placed in groups using colour, nature, animals and liquids as the lense.

Students started working on the different aspects of our Peace Assembly.  The theme for our assembly is Joy...  Ask your child what they have started working on.

Students started working in a new group for math, still focusing on sorting and patterning.  This includes sorting, repeating patterns, increasing patterns, numerical patterns and the equality as a balance and inequality as an imbalance.

We reflected on our week and recorded some of our learning in our visual journal.

Chickadee and Elbow- we had our Roots of Empathy baby visits! We were very excited to meet Adelaide and Kinuri and we learned about what they can do and how they communicate their feelings.

Aspen- We had our class presentation with the Kananaskis in the Classroom to learn more about butterflies and moths.

We learned about butterflies and moths from the Kananaskis in the Classroom. We learned that butterflies live only for days. Moths make cocoon and butterflies make chrysalis. When butterfly caterpillars are in trouble, they could ask ants to help by spraying chemicals.
