"Cardboard Challenge"
Tons of fun!!! It was heart warming to see students engaged in what they were doing, sharing, collaborating, being patient, supportive and all around amazing bunch of students.  Thank you to all the parents/staff who were able to help support Joy Pod in our building of "cozy places" for our stuffed animals.
Students were able to test their designs and some take aways from students was
"it wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be,"
"my finished design looks nothing like I planned,"
"my design looks better than I thought it was going to be,"
"next time I would use better tape," and
"next time I would use stronger tape and more cardboard."
We have kept students finished designs until next week as we plan to do a couple of things with these amazing ideas and give the students time to share their design with other students in Joy Pod.
We look forward to sharing our "Cardboard Challenge" designs soon!

Cardboard Challenge
Tomorrow Is our building day and students are looking forward to finally building those "cozy places" for their stuffed animals.  Students will be testing what they build and if it can hold their stuffed animal.  They will also be given some time to change or revise their design if they feel they need to.

For those students who have not yet brought in cardboard, please bring in those supplies tomorrow.  If students wanted they could bring some extra materials to make their spot more cozy (*these are meant to be recycled materials and parents are not expected to purchase anything).  We look forward to sharing our "Cardboard Challenge" designs soon!  If you are able to volunteer on Friday and help support students in this building.  Please email your child's homeroom teacher and we would LOVE to have the extra helping hands.

Wednesday, October 3 - Caine's Arcade

Joy Pod
Students today continued to plan for the building on Friday, October 5th.  We watched "Caine's Arcade" to inspire us! This has created some excitement about all the things we could create and build with cardboard.  After building their "cozy places" on Friday, students will be testing what they built and if it can hold their stuffed animal.  They will also be given some time to change or revise their plan if they feel they need to.

Please take some time to check out this youtube video as you too might be inspired!

Students have also been told they could bring in some extra materials to make their spot more cozy (*these are meant to be recycled materials and parents are not expected to purchase anything).  We look forward to sharing our "Cardboard Challenge" designs soon!  If you are able to volunteer on Friday and help support students in this building.  Please email your child's homeroom teacher and we would LOVE to have the extra helping hands.

Tuesday, October 2

Joy Pod
Students began planning for their building on Friday, October 5th.  If your child did not bring their stuffed animal today, please send the stuffed animal for tomorrow.  The students were given rulers to measure the length and width of their stuffed animal and began planning what and how much cardboard they would need to build their "cozy place" for their stuffed animal.

Students can continue to bring in cardboard for our "Cardboard Challenge"as we won't be building until Friday October 5th. If you have tape as well, we are in need of much tape!  Students may also bring items/materials that they feel will personalize their "cozy place" for their stuffed animal at anytime.

We look forward to sharing our "Cardboard Challenge" designs soon!  If you are able to volunteer on Friday and help support students in this building.  Please email your child's homeroom teacher and we would LOVE to have the extra helping hands.

Monday, October 1

Joy Pod
Today, we read the story, "If You Take a Mouse to School" by Laura Numeroff.  Using this book as inspiration we came up with our own book title,  "If You Give a Book to a Stuffed Animal."  Here are some of our ideas of what would happen if we gave a book to a stuffed animal ...
"it would look like they are holding the book and trying to read." - Ben
"it would look like they are trying to read to their friends." - Maddox
"it would look like they are just flipping the pages and not reading." - Emily .W.
"it would look like they are reading just the pictures." - Brennan

Students were presented with the driving question, "What would it look like if stuffed animals read?"  Some of the ideas of what to build for their stuffed animal was...
"a hammock because that is where I like to read"- Declan
"a bed because that is where I like to read"  - Mrs. Campbell
"a chair because that is where I like to read" - Alex

Students are asked to bring in their own stuffed animal tomorrow.  We are asking that the stuffed animal stay at school for the week.  Students will be planning the "cozy place to read" for their stuffed animal by measuring their stuffed animal and planning how much cardboard they will need.

We are in need of cardboard for this "Cardboard Challenge"that we are participating in on Friday October 5th. Please send cardboard you may have to school this upcoming week.  If you have tape as well, we are in need of this material.  Students may also bring items/materials that they feel will personalize their "cozy place" for their stuffed animal.

We look forward to sharing our "Cardboard Challenge" designs soon!  If you are able to volunteer on Friday and help support students in this building.  Please email your child's homeroom teacher and we would LOVE to have the extra helping hands.
