 Joy Pod

Math:  Students continue to focus on "Number Sense" in math.  Below are some of the number outcomes that we are working on with students:

Grade 1:
Outcome 1:
Number Sequence:
-1’s between two numbers (23, _, 24)
1’s backward from 20
-2’s forward to 20
-5’s and 10’s to 100

Outcome 3:
-Demonstrate understanding of counting:
-last number said identifies “how many”
-showing that an object has one count
-using counting on
-using parts or equal groups to count setsOutcome 6:
Estimate quantities to 20

 Outcome 4:
Represent and describe numbers to 20

Outcome 5:
Compare sets containing up to 20

Outcome 7:
Demonstrate an understanding of conservation of number

Outcome 8:
Identify the number up to 20 that is:
-one more
-two more
-one less
-two less

Outcome 9:
Demonstrate addition with answers to 20 and corresponding subtraction facts (mathematical language, creating and solving problems, modeling, recording process)

Outcome 10:
Describe and use mental mathematics strategies for basic addition and subtraction facts

Grade 2:
Outcome 1:
Number Sequence:
-2’s, 5’s, 10’s forward and backward

Outcome 2:
Demonstrate if a number is even or odd (to 100)

Outcome 3:
Describe order using ordinal numbers (up to tenth)

Outcome 4:
Represent and describe numbers to 100

Outcome 5:
Compare and order numbers up to 100

Outcome 6:
Estimate quantities to 100

 Outcome 7:
Illustrate meaning of place value for numerals to 100

 Outcome 8:
Demonstrate and explain effect of adding zero or subtracting zero

Outcome 9:
Demonstrate addition (1 and 2 digit numerals) with answers to 100
-personal strategies using manipulatives or not
-creating and solving problems
-understanding that the order which numbers are added does not affect the sum)
-understanding that grouping a set of numbers in different ways does not affect the sum
-explaining the order which numbers are subtracted may affect the difference

Outcome 10:
Apply mental mathematics strategies for basic addition facts and related subtraction facts to 18
