Today was the last day for the Joy Pod's student teachers, Miss Koh & Miss G.
We thanked them for everything they have done for us and wished them luck! We hope to see them again soon.

Wednesday April 17

Reading in the Joy Pod:
Students have been working on learning different reading strategies for figuring out new words such as "skippy frog" where they skip over the word, read to the end of the sentence and then hop back and go back and reread the sentence using the context to figure out the word.

Physical Education: Students continued with our gymnastics unit during their physical education classes.  We encourage students to wear loose, comfortable clothing to help with movement during this unit.  Gymnastics will continue into next week so students who are at the Science Centre this week will not miss out on the fun.

BOTTLE CAPS:
Please continue to think of Joy Pod when you are recycling your bottle cap lids.  We are happy to have any colour of lid (Black, Brown, Green, Blue, RedYellow, Purple, Pink and Orange plastic lids.  Thank you in advance!

********************************************************************************************
Lunch:  The school has been trying something different at lunch since returning from Spring Break.  The students have 15 minutes of quiet time to eat at the beginning of lunch. This is to help lunchroom supervisors take attendance, get milk handed out for those students who are in the milk program and allow the students time to concentrate on getting food into their bellies.  If you are finding your child is still not eating their lunch, please let your responsibility teacher know.  After 15 minutes of quiet eating time, students who are finished eating can watch a video, read a book and then head outside for some fresh air until lunch is over.

Friday April 12 in Joy Pod

Joy Pod learners continue to amaze us each and every day!   A couple of quotes overheard during learning this week:

As students were signing out new book club books   "I can't wait to get back to class to start reading!"

During a writing lesson when students were asked  what does writing look like, sound like and feel                 like?  The teacher said it would be great to see pencils  writing so hard that smoke is coming out of them.

A student responded "That is just like when we are mathematicians and solving math problems"

Reading Each Day is IMPORTANT  Check out the infographic to see what home reading can do:

Please remind your child to return their home reading books and exchange it for another "good fit" book.

Please return all Learning Commons books that are overdue
Mrs. Carde  will be (if she hasn't already) overdue notices.
